What you can expect

Discover the subtropical heart of Northland on this full-day guided walk through Puketi Forest, one of New Zealand’s most diverse rainforests and home to over 360 indigenous plant species. Moving at a comfortable pace in a small group of up to six, you’ll follow the banks of the Puketi River through hard beech forest and remarkable stands of towering kauri, with sweeping views across the Bay of Islands and rolling farmland along the way.

Guided by locals with a real passion for conservation, you’ll learn the stories behind the forest, including the remnants of the greatest kauri ever felled in New Zealand, protected within a special sanctuary since 1951. Look out for the Northland green gecko and tusked weta as you go, with morning tea, lunch, afternoon refreshments and bottled water keeping you well fuelled through a memorable day immersed in one of Northland’s natural treasures.
