What you can expect

Venture into Puketi Forest as daylight fades and this subtropical rainforest in the Bay of Islands slowly comes alive. On this relaxed guided night walk of up to three hours, you’ll hear the birdsong change from day calls to night calls at twilight, while bats swoop overhead feeding on insects and the forest’s nocturnal residents begin to stir.

Equipped with a headlamp and guided by locals with a passion for conservation, you’ll walk through one of New Zealand’s most diverse rainforests in a small group of two to six guests. Keep an eye out for the Northland green gecko and tusked weta among more than 360 indigenous plant species, and if luck is on your side, you may even glimpse a wild kiwi, capping off an unforgettable evening in Northland’s ancient forest.
