These guys made a nice afternoon out, spectacular. They were professional from the start, helpful all the way and knowledgeable to boot. A fantastic job done by the whole team. A tick on the bucket list, making dreams come true.
Few other organised wildlife experiences have afforded me greater joy than this trip. I'll be doing it again I think!
There are many places around the world where you can swim with dolphins, but few offer the chance to get close to one of the world’s smallest and rarest dolphin species, the beautiful Hector’s Dolphin. With Black Cat Cruises, you can experience the joy of swimming with these friendly, playful marine mammals in the sheltered waters of Akaroa Harbour.
Located just 80 minutes’ drive from Christchurch, Akaroa Harbour is home to the incredible Hector’s Dolphin. The harbour itself was formed from the flooded remains of an extinct volcanic crater, with dramatic volcanic cliffs creating a sheltered environment for both wildlife and visitors. Your Black Cat Cruises experience lasts approximately two hours, with around 45 minutes spent in the water during the dolphin swim.
Once in the water, wearing your provided wetsuit, snorkel and mask, you can enjoy a truly unforgettable experience. Hector’s Dolphins are known for their curious and sociable nature, making this one of New Zealand’s most special wildlife encounters.
If you prefer not to swim, you can still relax on board and watch the dolphins interact with swimmers from the comfort of the boat. You can only book the Dolphin Watch if you are accompanying someone booking the Dolphin Swim. If not, you can book the Akaroa Harbour Cruise
