What you can expect
One of New Zealand’s most awe-inspiring natural wonders, Milford Sound is a sight to behold. The mountains surrounding the fiord are the tallest and rise the most imposingly out of the sea in all of Fiordland. Dense rainforest grows over precipitous cliff faces and torrential waterfalls hurtle hundreds of metres into the ocean.
The Coach Trip Drive down the spectacular Milford Road, situated between Te Anau and Milford, one of the world’s most scenic alpine drives. The varied and beautiful scenery is unlike anywhere else in the world, ranging from luxuriant rainforest, soaring mountains and verdant plains to icy glacial lakes and fields flourishing with alpine herbs. It is the only road in all of Fiordland that provides such incredible insight into the alpine region of New Zealand.
All the luxury coaches have been specially designed for plying Milford Road and utilise cutting edge technology to provide the highest levels of safety and comfort.

What you need to know
- All food and beverage purchases aboard the vessels in Milford Sound, Doubtful Sound, Queenstown, and Te Anau, as well as at Walter Peak and the Manapouri Café, do not accept cash. A cashless system will provide a smoother, more efficient experience for both guests and staff
- Payment terminals accept all major credit cards and debit cards, including AMEX, WeChat Pay, AliPay and Union Pay, as well as contactless payment options like Apple Pay and Google Pay.
- Note: Fee of 1.5% applies to food and beverage purchases by credit card only. The fee does not apply to purchases in Retail Store at Walter Peak, or merchandise purchased from our Visitor Centres.

- Tours depart daily at 10am from the Lakefront Café, 92 Te Anau Terrace. Located just across the road from the Visitor Centre. Please check in 20 minutes prior to your departure
- Do the coaches for the Milford Sound day Tour have toilets aboard? There are not toilets aboard however there are toilet stops every 1.5 - 2 hours so you will get about 2 or 3 toilet stops. There are other stops as well where you can jump out to stretch your legs or take a picture but they do not have toilets.
- Is there an option to buy your own takeaway lunch for the Milford Sound Day Tour? You are welcome to bring packed lunches with you, otherwise there is a stop in Te Anau at a cafe where you can buy food too, as well as on the boat.

Very good day out to see some absolutely breathtaking scenery. It is a long day, but well worth it. Luke was our tour guide, he was able to us tell any noteworthy information on the way there about the surrounds on our nice drive, and was also quite funny and very friendly. I’ll definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Queenstown, or the South Island in general. I’ve added a few photos but they absolutely do not do it justice, see it for yourself !
