What you can expect
Make the most of your day with this self drive option for an action packed 3 hour canyoning adventure in the Gibbston Valley! Enjoy the thrill of natural waterslides, climbing through massive stone walls and navigating each section of the canyon with your Canyoning New Zealand expert guide. Test your limits by making the step over the edge on the first abseil of the day, and work your way down amongst the impressive power of the water as your canyoning experience continues.
This canyoning tour in the Gibbston Valley includes a 10 minute walk into the canyon, with up to 2 hours actually spent in your wetsuit. With all the equipment provided, it's a fantastic option for an introduction to canyoning which caters for non-swimmers (though you must be comfortable in water) and those with a lower level of fitness.
No canyoning experience is required to complete this tour, and you will be led at all times by an experienced canyoning guide who knows all about the Gibbston Valley and Queenstown canyoning scene.
This self drive option allows you to make the most of your time before or after your canyoning trip to explore everything else the Gibbston Valley has to offer. Check out the Gibbston Valley Winery, the local tavern and the stunning scenery of the Kawarau River.

What you need to know
- 3 hour tour including 2 hours of canyoning
- All equipment supplied including wetsuits, shoes, helmets & harness
- Experienced & qualified guides

- Transfers from Queenstown are not included, this option is self drive only
- Allow 3 hours (2 hours canyoning time)
- 9.30am & 2.30pm daily
- Gibbston Valley Tavern Carpark, 10 Coalpit Road, Gibbston Valley, 10 minutes before your departure for your check in
- Operates October - April only (does not operate in the winter)
- No previous canyoning experience required. A full demonstration of every activity will be provided
- You do not need to know how to swim but it's important that you like to be in the water & don't have a fear of water
- Minimum age 10yrs
- Bring with you swimwear & a towel
- Photos are available for purchase or you are welcome to bring your Go Pro with you as long as you have a head or chest mount for it
- Glasses can be worn in the canyon if need be but you will need a strap to attach them to yourself so you don't lose them
