Lift off from Queenstown at first light on a one hour hot air balloon flight that climbs to 6,000 feet above the Southern Alps. After a comprehensive safety briefing you can help inflate the balloon, then climb into the basket with an experienced CAA certified pilot. As the sun comes up, the whole basin opens out below you, from Lake Whakatipu and The Remarkables to Coronet Peak, Lake Hayes, and the Shotover and Kawarau Rivers threading through the valleys.
On a clear morning you can pick out Aoraki Mount Cook, Mount Aspiring, and Mount Tutoko on the horizon. Dress in warm layers and flat enclosed shoes, because you will be out in open fields before sunrise and again when you land. Help pack the balloon away, then celebrate where you land with non alcoholic bubbles, freshly brewed tea and coffee, and a spread of croissants and danishes.
