What you can expect
Queenstown is a great location for fly fishing, and if you’ve ever wanted to pick up the sport or improve your skills, a guided tour with Queenstown Fishing is just the thing you need. You will be picked up at your accommodation in Queenstown at a time of your choosing and then embark on a one to two hour drive that will take you to a location suited to the river and weather conditions of the day.
Cast to sighted and stalked fish with a size range between three to five pounds, though that doesn’t prevent you from spotting and hooking into far bigger fish.
Some of the locations you may enjoy include verdant farmland, wide open spaces covered in tussock, alpine beech forests, spring creeks in mountainous areas, freestone and alluvial rivers and alpine lakes.
Many of the best fly fishing rivers can only be accessed by 4WD from Queenstown, allowing you to experience some of the most sought after fishing spots in the world.

- Does the 4WD Fly Fishing Experience in Queenstown operate during winter months? Unfortunately the river is closed Jun-Oct so the 4WD fly fishing in Queenstown does not operate in these months.
- River spin fishing/soft baiting available upon request at time of booking
- Fly fishing tours only operate during summer months (Oct - May)
- Fishing licences are not included & need to be purchased on the day for an additional cost ($35 NZD per person)
- You are welcome to keep your fish (numbers depend on the rivers and lakes chosen on the day), however we promote catch and release
- Equipment hire (waders, boots, rod & reel) is available at time of booking, or you can bring your own
- Please advise any dietary requirements at time of booking
- Alcohol is not included - feel free to bring your own
