What you can expect

Experience Queenstown’s original river surfing adventure with Serious Fun Riverboarding on the Kawarau River. Take on white water rapids while soaking up spectacular scenery. Operating since 1989, this is a classic Queenstown adrenaline activity.

Navigate grade 2-3 white water rapids on the Kawarau River on purpose built river sledges. Tackle the strong currents, fast flowing water, waves and whirlpools all whilst enjoying the incredible surroundings. With its sturdy nature, sitting higher in the water and easy to hold appeal the maneuverable sledge is a step down from the body board but don't be fooled, you are still right in the action. Your adrenaline will certainly be pumping as you bash through the rapids but you'll also enjoy a calm section where you can simply breathe and take in the beautiful wilderness surrounding you.

What you need to know

Inclusions
  • Return transfers from central Queenstown
  • All equipment, including full steam 5mm wetsuit, booties, fins, life jacket, helmet and bodyboard
Duration
  • Allow 4-5 hrs 
Departure Location
  • 11am (Nov - Mar) & 10 am only (Sep - Oct & Apr - May)
  • Pick up from 5 Duke Street in central Queenstown, or self drive to Roaring Meg Power Station (allow 1 hour drive from Queenstown)
  • Operates daily September - April only
Additional Information
  • Everyone must be able to swim, be confident in water and reasonably fit. Basic swimming skills are required by all participants. Skills needed are moving forward with a freestyle kick, turning and balancing
  • Please bring swimwear, a towel, water bottle and a sense of adventure!
  • Minimum age for Sledging is 12yrs
  • Minimum numbers required for tour to go ahead
