Get ready for an adrenaline-charged journey with Rotorua White Water Rafting – Kaituna River Adventure. This world-class rafting experience takes you deep into the native bush and volcanic gorges of Rotorua, guided by Kaitiaki Adventures’ expert Kiwi and Māori river crew.
The Kaituna River is famous for its 14 thrilling rapids and three spectacular waterfalls, including the legendary 7-metre Tutea Falls; recognised as the highest commercially rafted waterfall in the world. From the first paddle stroke, you’ll feel the energy of this sacred awa (river) as you plunge into steep drops, surf playholes, and ride rolling waves.
What makes this adventure truly unique is the cultural connection. Along the way, our guides share kōrero (stories) of the river’s deep spiritual significance to local iwi, blending adrenaline with Māori heritage. It’s more than just rafting, it’s an unforgettable journey of adventure, culture, and connection.
No prior experience is required. After a full safety briefing, we provide all specialist gear including wetsuits, helmets, booties, life jackets, and paddles. All you need to bring is swimwear, a towel, and a “go for it” attitude. Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned rafter, our crew ensures your experience is safe, fun, and absolutely unforgettable.
Tours operate seven days a week at 8:30 am, 10:30 am, 12:30 pm, and 2:30 pm, lasting around three hours including transfers. Courtesy pick-ups and drop-offs are available from central Rotorua.
