Embark on an extraordinary 3 hour Rotorua helicopter tour with Volcanic Air, departing conveniently from Rotorua lakefront. This experience includes two helicopter landings, the first on Mount Tarawera summit and the second at Orakei Korako geothermal park. You will also have 1 hour for a self guided tour of Orakei Korako valley, before returning to Rotorua at the end of your flight. The perfect way to explore Rotorua by air and land!
Your helicopter Rotorua flight begins with taking off over Mokoia Island and the stunning Crater Lakes District, where you may glimpse the trout spawning at Tarawera outlet. Marvel at the mighty Tarawera Falls before landing on the summit of Mount Tarawera, the site of the 1886 volcanic eruption. During your 20 minute landing, explore the dormant volcano's deep rifts and panoramic views on foot while your expert pilot provides insightful commentary and photography services.
The Rotorua helicopter tour then continues along the 15km volcanic rift line, showcasing Waimangu Volcanic Valley's steaming cliffs and Inferno Crater. Witness the vibrant hues of the Artist’s Palette at Wai-O-Tapu Geothermal Park before descending over the Waikato River to the hidden valley of Orakei Korako. Don't forget your camera to capture some of this amazing scenery!
Upon landing at Orakei Korako, catch a ferry over to the geothermal park, where you can enjoy a 1 hour self-guided tour past hot springs, vibrant colors and gushing geysers. Indulge in a coffee or snack at the gift shop before re-boarding the helicopter for your return flight back to Rotorua.
