Great day out with Cho and Pete. Entertaining commentary on the coaches. Both boat trips were excellent too. Spectacular scenery and we saw the penguins! A must do Fiordland trip.
What you can expect
Doubtful Sound is a mind blowing fiord located in a World Heritage area. The isolated fiordland of Doubtful shows nature in its rawest and most overwhelming form imaginable. Known for its rich abundance of flora and fauna it is the second largest fiord of the 14 within the Fiordland National Park, standing at three times the length of Milford Sound and ten times larger!
To access the isolated Fiordland your adventure begins with a boat cruise across Lake Manapouri, followed by a coach ride over the Wilmot Pass where you can absorb the breathtaking sight which stands in front of you before descending into Deep Water Cove and boarding the catamaran for your three hour cruise.
The cruise provides you with dramatic views of Doubtfuls awe-inspiring scenery along with detailed commentary from the friendly and knowledgeable skippers who will highlight key viewing points to ensure that you don't miss a thing. As well as the scenery you will be treated to sightings of fur seals basking on the rocks, bottlenose dolphins frolicking alongside the ship and even the rare Fiordland Crested Penguin.

- Is the Doubtful Sound Wilderness Day cruise from Queenstown accessible to mobility challenged passenger? You will be getting a coach to Manapouri, a boat, another coach and then the Doubtful Sound cruise. If you are comforable getting on and off buses and boats then you should be fine. Please contact us to discuss the extent of your mobility.
- Where is there parking in Manapouri for the Doubtful Sound cruise? There is parking available not far from the departure point for the Doubtful Sound cruise.
- Sadly I get sea sick! Does this or any other Doubtful Sound (or Milford Sound) Cruise avoid the potentially rough exit into the Tasman Sea? I'd really like to stay on boat overnight but believe all those cruises exit to the Tasman Sea. Is that the case? None of the day boats or overnight boats actually exit the Sound and make their way into the Tasman sea. The boats do not rock round much and stay fairly protected from the weather. If you are concerned about sea sickness on Doubtful Sound then you can take sea sickness medication before hand.
