Experience the beauty of Tongariro National Park on a 2 hour Pre Sunset Guided Walk. Adrift Tongariro offers a unique opportunity to explore a section of the famous Tongariro Alpine Crossing on an easy evening walk with experienced guides. Short walks in Tongariro National Park are perfect for those wanting to experience a taste of the North Island's alpine scenery without committing to a full day hike.
The 2 hour Pre Sunset Guided Walk is set amongst Tongariro's iconic volcanic landscapes, with sights along the way including the Taranaki Falls and the Silica Rapids. Many of the landmarks you see today were formed by Mt Ruapehu eruptions as far back as 15,000 years ago. Your hiking guide will provide you with interesting insights into the history and geology of the area, making your experience even more enriching.

- Return transfers from Adrift Tongariro Base to start of walk (if required)
- $60 credit for gear hire (such as clothing & footwear)
- Meals (not available with this tour)
- Transport to the meeting location

- November - February: Meet at 6:00pm, Return at 8:30pm
- March: Meet at 4:30pm, Return at 7:00pm
- April - September: Meet at 2:30pm, Return at 5:00pm
- October: Meet at 4:30pm, Return at 7:00pm
- This experience will takes approximately 2 to 2.5 hours
- This experience departs at Tongariro National Park Visitor Centre, Whakapapa Village, State Highway 48, Mount Ruapehu 3951
- Please bring: water, outdoor shoes with grip, long walking trousers, 2 warm tops & a waterproof raincoat
- Extra layering in winter is recommended
- You will have a $60 credit for equipment hire, any further gear can be hired for an additional cost
- Gear hire is available at the Adrift Tongariro Base prior to your departure: Boots $35; Clothing items $15 each; Clothing accessories (gloves, hats and sunglasses) $5 each; Backpacks $15 each
- Great for those who would like to experience the volcanic terrain but have limited fitness for the more strenuous full day treks
- Departure times will be confirmed upon booking (these can vary depending on the season)
- Adrift Tongariro's preferred route for this walk is the Taranaki Falls Track, but this can change to suit the ability of the group
- Adrift Tongariro accepts no responsibility for the clients use of third party transportation nor any acts of god nor illness or injury, which affects the client’s ability to commence their scheduled tour.
- No refund or options to reschedule will be made if the client does not call the day prior to the tour date to reconfirm, is late to the scheduled meeting time or does not show up for their scheduled tour.
- A refund of the tour cost is given to all cancellations made by customers up to 14 days prior to the tour date, booking fee is non refundable.
- Should the minimum group size not be met a surcharge of an extra person(s) will be charged or the customer can choose 1: reschedule for up to 12 months from the original tour date or 2: receive a refund of the tour cost, booking fee is non refundable.
- Adrift Tongariro has the right to cancel a tour should we consider the weather to cause too high a risk. If Adrift Tongariro cancels due to unsafe forecast or conditions a safe alternate tour will be offered or the customer can choose 1: reschedule for up to 12 months from the original tour date or 2: receive a refund of the tour cost, booking fee is non refundable.
