Join professional guides on a horse riding tour through some of the most breathtaking scenery in the world, from rolling hills and lush forests to beautiful lakes and snow-capped mountains.
Running a 2 hour horse trek in summer and 1 hour treks all year round, Westray Horse Treks will guide you through the fields and hills to reach a lofty point in the Te Anau basin. From here, you can enjoy panoramic views of the Te Anau region - located within Fiordland National Park and gateway to the world-famous Milford Sound. Take a moment to soak in the scenery and enjoy some light refreshments, before starting your return ride back to the Waimak Horse Treks stables.
Westray Horse Treks prioritise your safety and comfort, ensuring a memorable and enjoyable experience for riders of all levels. With friendly and well-trained horses selected for their gentle nature and reliable temperament, you are bound to forge a strong connection with your equine companion during the trek. During the winter season, all treks are at walking pace only, with the option for more experienced riders to trot and canter on summer treks.

- Allow up to 2.5 hours (1.5 hours for winter ride)
- 2 hour horse trek departs at 9:00am & 1:00pm in summer only
- 1 hour horse trek departs at 4:30pm in summer & 10:00am in winter
- Departs from 55 Ramparts Road, 5 minutes drive from Te Anau
- Operates daily all year
- Maximum weight is 95kg (210lbs)
- Minimum age is 6yrs (depending on the size of the child). They must be able to sit on a horse by themselves and be led by a guide also on horseback.
- Children under 16yrs must be accompanied by a participating adult
- Please bring sunscreen, camera, sturdy footwear, long trousers & a windbreaker / light rain jacket
- Beginners and people with no previous experience are welcome
- Client to guide ratio of at least 1 guide to 4 beginner riders for maximum safety & comfort
- Please note winter horse treks are at walking pace only
