The Milford Track is one of New Zealand’s most iconic Great Walks, and this self-guided Milford Track day walk with Fiordland Outdoors offers the perfect way to experience it without an overnight stay. Depart from Te Anau Downs and enjoy a scenic 50-minute cruise across Lake Te Anau before setting out on foot from Glade Wharf.
The track follows the Clinton River through lush native beech forest, where you can listen for tui, bellbirds, fantails, and robins as you walk. The trail to Clinton Hut is a gentle 10-kilometre return route, offering a relaxed way to explore Fiordland National Park. Stop for a picnic lunch by the clear waters of the Clinton River before retracing your steps back to the wharf.
Your return water taxi will bring you back across the lake, with impressive views of Fiordland’s mountains and valleys. The Milford Track day walk is suitable for couples, families, and groups, and provides a glimpse of the track that has captivated hikers for over a century. Operated by Fiordland Outdoors, this is a safe and well- organised way to enjoy one of New Zealand’s great outdoor experiences.
