Step onto New Zealand’s most famous walk and enjoy the Milford Track your way on this easy, self-guided day adventure from October to April. Make your way to Te Anau Downs either by self-drive or by hopping on a convenient coach from Te Anau township, then cruise for an hour across stunning Lake Te Anau to Glade Wharf. From here, set off at your own pace through lush beech forest, over swing bridges and alongside Fiordland mountain views peeking through the trees - an ideal introduction to one of the world’s great walks, with no overnight packs required.
The flat, well-formed track suits kids and adults alike, with birdsong from resident grey warblers, robins, fantails, bellbirds and tui along the way. Walk 5km to historic Clinton Hut for a picnic and a splash in the crystal-clear Clinton River, then wander back to Glade Wharf for your return water taxi. With a 10km return walk and loads to see, it’s a feel-good day out from Te Anau - classic Kiwi nature at its best.
