Discover the Alderman Islands Nature Reserve on a 2 hour boat tour departing from Tairua Marina in the Coromandel. Also known as the Vanishing Volcanoes, the iconic Alderman Islands are made up of a chain of rhyolite domes with sheer cliff faces and thriving endemic flora and fauna. This small-group Coromandel boat tour allows you to explore the remote Alderman Islands nature reserve that is teeming with marine life, with an expert local guide providing interesting commentary along the way.
As one of New Zealand's finest diving and marine environments, the waters surrounding the Alderman Islands are home to an incredible diversity of sea life. While the tour doesn’t include diving, it offers an excellent way to experience what this marine reserve has to offer from above the water. Throughout the Alderman Islands boat tour, look out for whales, dolphins, sharks, turtles and many species of seabirds. Your guide will also share stories about the history and ecology of the islands, making this an educational and engaging adventure.
Due to ever-changing sea conditions and varying routes, each Alderman Islands boat tour offers something unique. With a maximum of 12 passengers and a small vessel, you'll have unparalleled views of the island chain and the ability to get up close and personal to the flora & fauna and marine life.

- Minimum numbers required for tour to go ahead
- Please bring comfortable shoes, a warm layer, sunscreen and a camera
- This tour does not include stops for swimming or landing on the islands
- If sea conditions are unsuitable, your tour may take an alternative route or departure times may vary. If your tour is cancelled due to weather conditions, you will have the option to reschedule or receive a refund.
