This 2 hour adventure takes you on a scenic journey along the stunning coastline of the Coromandel Peninsula, where you'll discover hidden coves, pristine beaches and breathtaking rock formations.

A Cathedral Cove Boat Cruise is the perfect way to explore this iconic New Zealand landmark. You'll be able to see the famous archway from a unique perspective, as the boat tour takes you right up close to its towering cliffs. If you look closely, you might even recognise Cathedral Cove as a filming location for The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. Throughout the tour, your friendly guides will share fascinating stories and insights about the area's history, geology and wildlife, making this a truly educational and enriching experience.

What you need to know

  • Two-hour boat tour of Cathedral Cove and surrounds
  • Local tour guide
  • Beautiful coastal scenery.
  • Life jackets and a safety briefing
  • Time for a photos
  • Blankets in colder months if required
  • This experience is approximately 2 hours in duration
  • The tour departs from the Whitianga Wharf, Esplanade Rd.
  • If you plan on swimming or snorkelling wear your swimwear under your clothing and bring a towel
  • Pack a warm jacket, camera/binoculars, sunhat and sunscreen
  • This experience allows a maximum of 16 passengers at a time.
  • This tour may be cancelled due to bad weather. (Departure times may change due to the weather conditions on the day.)
  • If mobility impaired passengers can make their way onto the boat, each seat has a comfortable and secure back rest. Please call us to discuss further requirements.
  • We have special life jackets suited for infants. Babies often fall asleep on the boat with the rocking motion and sound of the engine.
  • Dress for the conditions – We recommend bringing a warm layer or light jacket, even on sunny days, as it can be cooler on the water.
  • Seasickness – Our purpose-built vessel is very stable and seasickness is uncommon, but if you're prone to motion sickness, we recommend taking your preferred medication before departure.
  • Refreshments – Feel free to bring water and light snacks to enjoy during the tour.
  • Camera – Don't forget your camera or phone. From dramatic sea caves to Cathedral Cove and marine wildlife, there are plenty of photo opportunities.
  • Toilet on board – From November 2026 our vessel will be equipped with an onboard toilet for your comfort and convenience.
  • Arrive early – Please arrive at least 15 minutes before departure to allow time for check-in and boarding.
  • This is a scenic sightseeing boat tour. There are no swimming or snorkelling opportunities during the trip.
  • The tour does not land at Cathedral Cove. The cove is viewed from the water.
  • Children must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Tours are subject to suitable weather and sea conditions.
  • For the safety and comfort of all passengers, the skipper's instructions must be followed at all times.
