What you can expect
Cruise Lake Taupō on a two hour and 30 minute evening sail to the Māori Rock Carvings, gliding out across New Zealand's largest lake as the sun drops toward the horizon. Step aboard an eco friendly yacht powered by an electric engine, settle in with a complimentary wine, beer, cider, or soda, and let the captain steer you past quiet bays and snow capped peaks while the sky turns orange and gold.
As the light fades, the yacht slips into Mine Bay, where the 14 metre Māori Rock Carvings rise straight from the water, reachable only by boat and close enough for a clear photo. Informative commentary fills in the story behind the artwork and the lake as you drift. On warm summer evenings you can even slip over the side for a swim before the sail back to port. Locals will tell you the sunset run is the one to book, when the lake glows and the peaks catch the last of the light. Warm ponchos are on board, so come dressed for the evening air and let Taupō do the rest.
