Dive into the world of movie magic with the Weta Workshop Tour in Wellington, a must-do experience for film buffs visiting New Zealand's capital. Located 15 minutes drive from central Wellington, this 90 minute guided tour takes you behind the scenes of one of the film industry’s leading special effects companies. From The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit to Avatar and District 9, discover how Weta Workshop creates the iconic props and movie effects seen in some of your favourite films.
Your journey begins at the Weta Cave store, where you’ll check in, meet your guide and embark on a small group tour through the Weta Workshop. Along the way, explore displays of creatures, costumes and miniatures (and much more!), while learning about the creative techniques used to bring them to life. If you’re lucky, you might even catch an artist at work!
After the tour, take your time to look around the Weta Cave shop, which is full of books, merchandise, collectables and even a mini-museum showcasing some of the Weta Workshop’s creations. Whether you’re a movie buff, a fantasy fan or you're curious about how iconic films such as The Lord of the Rings are brought to life, the Weta Workshop tour in Wellington is an excellent option.

- Transfers available from 217 Wakefield Street, central Wellington (from 9:15am - 1:15pm only)
- Operates daily all year
- Child rates apply (5-14yrs)
- Infants (0-4yrs) travel free of charge, please advise upon booking
- Suitable for all ages, however please note that some images on the tour feature horror films
- Photography is not permitted inside the workshop
- On-street parking at Weta Cave store is available but limited. Please allow extra time to find a park
- Tours frequently sell out, advance bookings are strongly recommended
