About Wellington

The capital city of New Zealand is positioned on the south-western tip of the North Island and home to Government House named the Bee Hive, because of it's shape.

It’s been said it’s a borderline miracle that the world’s most southerly capital (that’s us) is also one of its most charismatic. Fair call - hark back a couple of decades and you’d find a Wellington a tad on the dull side; some even said it was best seen leaving on the ferry to the South Island.

But things have changed. We’re arty and bohemian now. We make massive movies. We have the most visited museum in Australasia, and we’re charmed with the best restaurants and bars in the land. Rumour has it Wellington has more cafes and bars per capita than New York City. To top it off we’ve got some of the hottest events on offer including Brancott Estate World of WearableArt Awards Show, International Rugby Sevens (aka New Zealand's largest dress up party) and Visa Wellington On a Plate.

Best of all, Wellington is just a 3.5 hour direct flight from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
