Start the tour after been picked up in central Queenstown with a scenic drive up the Crown Range, this is the highest sealed road of New Zealand and is usually covered with snow in winter and boasting some incredible views. You will stretch your legs at an amazing view point and be able to get some spectacular photos.

The next stop on the tour is the iconic Cardrona Hotel. One of New Zealand's oldest hotels and one of the most photographed buildings in the area, the Cardrona offers up a rustic, old-fashioned feel and so it should, it was built in 1863 at the height of the Gold Rush. You'll receive your complimentary beer or non alcoholic ginger beer to enjoy in the beer garden or before the fire.

You'll make your way to Wanaka; a gorgeous town that has made a name for itself as a trendy eco resort town. Historically, Wanaka was use by the Maori people as a pathway to greenstone sites and later by goldminers for accommodation; it is surrounded by majestic mountains and giant glaciers. It's also the home of the Reflection Tree - a natural wonder that makes for a perfect photo! After this, you'll have an hour to wander around Wanaka; have lunch at a cafe, browse the local shops and take in the scenic views.

After your time in Wanaka you'll drive to the charming Arrowtown and Chinese Village. You'll walk among tiny restored cottages and become enchanted with the historic buildings of this town that was the site of the Gold Rush in 1860s. 

The day will end with a short scenic drive back to central Queenstown to finish the tour. 

Arrowtown & Wanaka Historic Tour - 6 Hours

Arrowtown Electric Bike Hire - Full Day

A stunning self-guided bike ride from Arrowtown to Queenstown. Head out on a 25 minute shuttle from Around The Basin’s shop to Arrowtown. Once there, you will be provided with all of the tools you need for this self-guided adventure ride: a quality mountain bike or E-bike with a helmet; a detailed briefing to explain the route; and our trail map to help with navigation. There’s the opportunity to explore Arrowtown – once a historic settlement built during the Gold Rush era – or grab a coffee to help fuel your day. 

The route starts by following the Arrow River Trail downstream to the Morven Ferry, crossing the river via a few spectacular bridges. From there you’ll join the Twin Rivers Trail, which follows the Kawarau and Shotover rivers to the shores of Lake Whakatipu. Expect to see incredible alpine views throughout this section as you traverse the foothills of The Remarkables mountains. Even the Old Shotover Bridge, which has spanned the river for more than a century, provides outstanding views of two ski areas. The last stage of the journey is a gentle, flowing trail along the lake’s edge, passing a few cafés and even a brewery, before the finish line back in central Queenstown. 

This ride is on wide gravel trails, graded either 2 or 3 (as shown in the images above). The minimum riding distance is 35 km (21 miles) with a few decent hills. It is recommended for those who are confident riders with a good level of fitness.

Arrowtown To Queenstown Self-Guided Bike Ride

Embark on a self-guided half-day adventure that begins with a prompt bus transfer from Queenstown to Arrowtown. On arrival, you’ll be fitted with your mountain bike or e-bike, given a detailed trail map, and receive a safety briefing to set you up for the ride ahead. From there, the journey follows the Arrow River Bridges Trail, going past stunning alpine scenery and across picturesque suspension bridges, before heading towards the iconic Kawarau Bungy Bridge. This first section is around 13 kilometres, with opportunities to stop for photos at any point along the way.

The ride then continues a further 3 kilometres into the Gibbston Valley, where vineyards and mountain views await. You’ll finish your cycling experience at Gibbston Valley Winery, where you’ll be collected and transferred back to Queenstown. This half-day self-guided ride offers the perfect mix of freedom and support, making it ideal for those wanting to explore Queenstown’s famous trails at their own pace.
